Improve your reporting Dashboard

Companies often have multiple software products. Full integration of the different tools can be expensive and time consuming. We build solutions to integrate data from different sources. This allows companies to understand their inventory, measure their performance and plan for the future.

A business with multiple revenue streams, each using a different software, was struggling to efficiently monitor consolidated results.  We developed a dashboard that enabled the business to quickly paste the data output from each software into one Excel document.  The dashboard uses formulas and formatting to consolidate the data.  The business is now able to quickly update their dashboard.

Optimize your Existing Software Investments

Unless you have software that was custom written for your company, most tools are not a perfect match for your business. We evaluate the gaps in how your business operates and how you use your software. Potential options to explore include adjusting your software configuration, using existing fields for an alternate purpose, modifying or creating custom reports and implementing additional features in the software.

A business was tracking customer credit status on a spreadsheet.  In order to communicate which jobs required pre-payment, the credit manager was sending emails and attending meetings.  Data by Design repurposed fields in the software so the credit status could be entered directly into the system. This provided all users with the ability to quickly view the current status.  In addition, the production schedule report was modified to include this information.

The standard reports for a business were difficult to read and did not highlight the key information.  In many instances users had to compare data on multiple reports.  We designed and created custom reports that led to fewer errors and improved efficiency.

Improve your processes for managing data

Similar to improving productivity in a manufacturing environment, your data and reporting processes can be optimized. We minimize time spent on repetitive entry and manipulation of data. In addition, a smart design may improve the accuracy of the data and flag errors earlier in your process.

Customer service was communicating special requirements to the shop floor with emails and phone calls.  Data by Design trained users where to enter comments within the existing software and modified the shop floor job ticket to highlight the special notes.  Better communication led to fewer errors.

Advanced Excel Training

Spreadsheets are powerful tools but require knowledge and experience to use them effectively. We can train your users or we can work directly with you to build a tool that is easy for you to understand and maintain. Solutions might include modifying the approach for inputting data and using advanced functions like VLookup, SumIf, named ranges and conditional formatting.

Individual was exporting data from software and then manipulating the data using many steps in Excel.  We trained the person to use formulas like SumIfs and Named Ranges.  The revised spreadsheet is much quicker to update and easier to maintain.

Data and Software Migration

Investing in new software is always a big undertaking. Without careful planning and follow through it is difficult to realize the full potential of your new tools. We can lead the effort to define functional requirements, evaluate different options, plan your data migration, create a transition plan and train your end users.

Business was migrating to new HR software.  We developed a process to compare the paycheck salary amounts, taxes and deductions between the new system and the current system.  This required many iterations as the team learned how hourly rates, overtime calculations, and special tax rates are handled in the new system
